An Australian Icon
The Akubra name is synonymous with the landscape of outback Australia, and its hats, now worn all over the world, continue to form a unique part of the Australian lifestyle and working ethos.

In 1874, an Englishman founded Akubra and a new process for making hats in Tasmania, Australia. The company later established larger operations in Sydney to meet popular demand, particularly for the slouch hats worn by Australian troops in WWI. Today, the business, still in Sydney, continues to be owned and managed by its founding families.

Akubra designs blend traditional English hat making skills with the challenges of the harsh Australian climate. The result is elegant, stylish hats that are durable and versatile. They are still worn on the land and their array of fashionable styles make ideal gifts for overseas visitors. They are also becoming a reliable staple for city folk.
